Who, other than me, is still wondering where this year has gone? Who is glad for this year to finally be ending? This year has been filled with so many more obstacles, disappointments, worry, stress, and feelings of hopelessness. I have literally felt helpless when it comes to controlling feelings of despair. That is not a very good testimony for a child of God. I think the Devil is working overtime in trying to defeat the children of God. He knows he only has a short time. He is taking everything he can get his hands on and trying to destroy it. He wants us to feel hopeless and out of control. He wants to take our normal day of existence and turn it into nothing but chaos AND I AM LETTING HIM DO IT. So now we are closing in on the end of the year and how soon we have forgotten what the Lord has brought us through, what blessings He has bestowed upon our lives.
When I look over 2021, I see the goodness of God so clearly. I have been blessed with a good family, friends, health, home, food, clothing, transportation, employment, and a church to attend. We have been kept safe and protected. No harm or danger has come our way and prayers have been answered. Yet, we still allow episodes of doubt to creep in, steal our joy and contentment because we do not like to be uncomfortable. We want our normal to return. Well, this may be the new normal. Besides, who wants to be normal? Maybe God is trying to make us uncomfortable. “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will work for you today”.
Instead of trying to get out of the year 2021. Maybe we should take one day at a time and give God the honor and glory that He deserves for all that He has done and continuing to do for us. God is in control.
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it …” We need to realize that we are children of the most high God and that old devil will one day be cast into the Lake of fire and will never bother us again. Praise the Lord!
My word for 2021 was RESTORE which means to bring back (a previous right, practice, custom, or situation); reinstate, return (someone or something) to a former condition, place, or position. Maybe God has turned my world upside down in order for my life to be restored to a place where I need to be in Him. Maybe I needed a reminder that even though life happens and sometimes it is not what I want, “He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.” I feel better all ready and I am not going to wish a minute, hour, day, or year away. He has given us life and life everlasting. What can we do with the time we have? What are we going to do differently in 2022? What lessons has this year taught us?
It is the most wonderful time of the year! Our Savior was given to us over 2000 years ago and we need to celebrate Him every minute until He comes to take us home. May you and yours have a blessed Christmas and a very bright New Year. I cannot wait to hear how awesome 2022 is going to be. As long as you have the Lord on your side.... Life is good!
